Bull Run's Battle

So as I was baking today, I realized that it resembles the history of racial tensions and integration, etc.
Think about it, first you add the eggs, sugars, and butters together in one bowl. Then in another bowl, you put together the (usually) white ingredients such as flour, baking powder/soda, salt and so on and so forth (and sometimes cinnamon or nutmeg.) As I was mixing the eggs with the rest of the wet ingredients I thought about it all.
I don't mean to defend myself in any way at all, but you know how white people are judged as those people that don't really know or understand other cultures/styles of life and that they live happily ever after because they are "pure." Bullshit! If anything, the white people are the most ostracized because many different peoples decide to find a common enemy and then history happens.
Well, the eggs wouldn't mix. Not until all of the dry ingredients were mixed in. I beat those eggs in as well as I thought I could, but they were still the little liquid chilling in the bowl separate from the other ingredients. And when I put the oats, flour, baking powder, etc. in, I had to mix for a long time. It's like... the first time you try to mix it all together it isn't going to work and you just have to wait longer. And when you try the batter, you can still taste all of the different ingredients, but put together they are so much better.

Can't anyone agree with me?

Happy Mother's Pie Day!

Today, in celebration of Mother's Day, I made a pie, because, after all, what more can describe my mom and my relationship better than pie?
The answer is nothing!

So I decided to experiment. And I made my very FIRST custard pie all by myself. And let me tell you something, it is one stressful pie to make at time. It has a very liquidy inside when you put it in the pan and it fills the pie shell to the brim, so naturally, being the klutz that I am, I spilled some in the heated oven.

See how liquidy that is? ---->

This is what I had to put in the oven! Ahhh!

I had to clean the oven. Grr! But after all of that worrisome business, I got the pie in without too much damage. 20 minutes later, I had to spin it around so that both sides got the same amount of cook-ness (wow...) 20 minutes LATER, and it comes out semi-beautifully!

Ta-daah!

This is a proud moment. I am very excited for myself. This is like the first time I made the Lemon-Merengue Pie (you remember THAT, right?). I feel succesful. Who cares if it doesn't taste great? I'm not much of a flan fan myself, but knowing that I made it by myself, I will enjoy it. And I know my mom will too!

Well, well, well,

Cody told me about some drama that I had not known which did include me.

Oh well... I'm fine with it now...

But I am going to make some pasta today and NO I don't mean putting some in hot water and boiling it. I mean really MAKING the pasta and whatnot, THEN making the sauce.
All. From. Scratch.

I'll be meeting up with Joyce in a little bit, then we'll meet up with Maddie Russell and go to Dante's House.

Jack and Tobi will be there; Bailey will meet us there later.

Ooo... my mom just informed me that we will be having MEAT for dinner. Yum!

Well, done for now! Off to vlog!

Zucchini Bread

I just made some great Zucchini Bread... yeah yeah I know it SOUNDS disgusting, but it's actually really amazing! I love it! Last time I made it, it was such a surprising flavor... very sweet though...

I love my body! Just happy... even if boys are confusing my "simple ass" as Kid CuDi would say.

Walker would be proud.

I love life when I blog here. I don't care if other people find this boring.

I love my friends, however few they may be.
I know who my real friends aren't right now. I don't need to know who ARE my real friends yet...

People who exclude: suck it!

Oh... and Brian, Giuseppe, and I went to a basketball game tonight... 'twas fun-ish!

Sleepy, Grumpy, and...

Well, after a boring Mock Trial meeting (sorry to say that it was very boring), I am planning to make that apple/ ricotta coffee cake. Did I ever tell you that it was... SUPERB? Maybe I didn't... well It was. Hopefully it will turn out just as great!

Oh, when my sister visited, I also made some snickerdoodles. They were perfect... I just wish they weren't gone now.

Tea and Cookies!

So, naturally, when Jasmine arrived, we wanted to eat. So first, we tested out the TeaPosie my aunt gave the family for Christmas. It was actually really cool. Here is a video of Jasmine and I (plus some of my mother :) ) talking about it!

Aren't these instructions funny?

And after that, we took some great photos as we observed the flower bloom!

This is right before we put the hot water in the tea pot!

And this is after. Didn't it turn out beautiful?

And I just thought this photo was adorable! Heehee!

And after this, once again, we wanted to eat something with this tea. We drank out of our family's collection of Jasmine Tea Cups haha.

So we made sugar cookies. We even shaped them!

Ahhh... lovin' the artsy fartsiness of this photo!

Our attempts to making an M and a J for our names... ehhh

Apple/ Ricotta Coffee Cake Success

Today, because it was so rainy, I made an Apple/Ricotta Coffee Cake, which contains a streusel in the middle. It is in the oven as I type, ready to be poked with a clean toothpick! Here is the recipe. I'm pretty stoked to try it out once it's ready to be taken out of the oven. I'll be posting photos when it is done!

Oh! I am waiting for Jasmine to come over. We might cover a song if we have enough time.

UPDATE: Here are two photos. One is of the cake itself, and the second one with Jasmine posing beautifully (of course.)

Lemon Merengue Pie

I make a wicked good Lemon Merengue Pie. Not only is it yummy for others to eat, but it's my own therapy: baking! I love it! I'm in the process of making one, but I can't find the lemons. Sort of a crucial ingredient.

It's great when I'm feeling down. Like now, for example. I'll post photos when I can! It's such a pretty pie too, which makes it more appealing.

By the way, this pie is for some family friends.
So, here is the recipe (sorry it's sideways!):

What this recipe doesn't say you need (which you definitely do need) is some patience. It also says on another page that you only needed to beat the egg whites for one minute. CORRECTION: 7.5 minutes.

Before and After (Crust)

And now for the PIE!

Before and After (Pie)

After hours of hard work, the pie turned out perfect! I hope Kristi and Vince enjoy it! All I can say is whoever made up the saying "Easy as pie" has another thing coming.
